What We Do
Stevens County Cat Care spays/neuters cats with our one-Sunday-a-month mobile clinics, using the same veterinarians who, the rest of the week, work in regular vet clinics and charge regular prices. Because we are volunteers, our costs are less. We charge our customers a small co-pay and the remainder of the cost is covered by small grants, the kindness of strangers, and donations from generous people like yourself.
- Spays and Neuters are $35.00 per cat for low income residents of Stevens County, WA.
- Currently, we’ll fix mama kitty for free and her young litter (young defined as still having baby teeth) for half price if you bring them all in together before finding homes for the kittens.
In addition to our low-cost spay/neuters:
- Fees include (at no additional cost) an FVRCP vaccination for each cat. (This is an acronym used by veterinarians and it stands for “feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia.)
- Each cat also receives a free pain shot which will lessen pain for approximately two days after surgery.
- Ear mite treatment if needed.
- There is NO EXTRA CHARGE if your cat is pregnant or in heat.
- Yes, we fix feral cats! Because we understand that community cats are not always appreciated or welcomed by those who do not value their great mousekeeping skills, we offer our services to ferals BY DONATION. We can loan you live traps to use if you will TRAP, NEUTER, RETURN (TNR) the ferals to where you found them. (Ferals get a free rabies vaccination, will be ear tipped (no exceptions) and also receive a tattoo in the other ear showing they had a rabies vaccination.) To qualify as a ‘feral’ the cat must be feral at the time you trap it. A feral kitten that has grown into a tame adult is no longer a feral cat. Cats that allow you to handle them are not feral.
As of January 1, 2012 Washington State law regarding rabies vaccinations states that all owned dogs, cats and ferrets are required to have rabies shots. We offer rabies shots to cats at the time we spay/neuter them for an additional $10.00, if you request one. Note: Cats/kittens must be at least 3 months of age to be vaccinated for rabies.
We Need You

It takes a village! Without volunteers, our clinics cannot continue to be successful. We need volunteers to help with paperwork, scrub surgical instruments, scrub cat crates, move cats and/or crates from station to station during clinics and help cats wake up during recovery. Don’t worry, no one will ever be asked to do anything they are not comfortable with. If you are interested in helping at our one-Sunday-a-month-mobile-clinics, please email us at meow@stevenscountycatcare.org or call Maggie at (509) 738-6895. You must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to follow instructions.
Our meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month and alternate between Colville and Chewelah (except when Thanksgiving and/or Christmas cause us to back it up a Thursday). Email us at meow@stevenscountycatcare.org for the time and locations if you are interested in becoming a part of our team. We need new people!

Your donations keep up purring! Although our costs are kept to a minimum because we do not have a full-time staff or location, each cat costs us roughly $35.00 to spay/neuter. Costs include insurance, phones, supplies, drugs, and event location rental. Only the licensed professionals are paid. Everyone else volunteers their time. Because we never turn anyone away for lack of money, we fix many cats for far less. Each clinic costs us more than what we receive from the cat owners that day. We cannot operate without public support.
